Charter Review Comments Due Monday — Make Your Voice Heard

Worthington’s City Charter requires that a Charter Review Commission be convened at least every ten years to examine the document that defines how our city governs itself. This built-in review process reflects a recognition that good governance requires periodic reassessment, and that the rules we operate under should keep pace with the community we are becoming.
This year’s Commission is made up of council-appointed community members who were carefully selected for their experience and their deep roots in Worthington. They have been meeting since April, and they have now released proposed recommendations for public review and comment.
As an organization representing Worthington’s business community, we want to make sure our members know this process is underway and that there is still time to participate. The comment window closes Monday, June 22 at 12:00 PM, and the Commission holds its final public meeting Tuesday, June 23 at 4:30 PM at City Hall.
The proposed recommendations touch on areas that are relevant to development, investment, and how the city conducts its business. We encourage you to read them and share your perspective directly with the Commission.
We Need Your Voice — Before Monday
The Commission’s recommendations will go to City Council, which will decide which amendments to place on the fall ballot. Public input between now and next week is one of the ways that decision gets shaped.
The restaurants, retailers, service providers, and employers that make Worthington a place people want to live, work, and visit have a real stake in how this city governs itself. The businesses that line High Street, that fill our neighborhoods, that employ our neighbors, they deserve to have their voices in this process.
You do not need to write a lengthy statement. A few sentences about what Worthington’s business community means to you, and what you need from your city government to keep it thriving, is enough.
Review the proposed recommendations and submit written comments through the online form at worthington.org/2466, by email to CharterReview@worthington.org, or by paper form at City Hall, the Griswold Center, or the Community Center. The deadline is Monday, June 22 at 12:00 PM.
Better yet, show up in person. The Commission’s final public meeting is Tuesday, June 23 at 4:30 PM at City Hall. You will have up to three minutes to speak directly to the Commission. There is no substitute for a room full of business owners and engaged residents making clear that they are paying attention and that they care about Worthington’s future.
