Having served on the Worthington Together committee for the past several months, I've witnessed firsthand the incredible dedication and thoughtfulness that's gone into this community planning process. I wanted to share what we've accomplished and why I think every Worthington resident and business owner should review the results.
Comprehensive Plan Update
Worthington Together: Thoughtful Community Planning in Action
As a member of the Worthington Together committee, I wanted to share some exciting progress on this important community planning effort that's shaping our city's future.
Real Community Input, Thoughtful Analysis
The Community Choices Results Summary is now available and reflects months of careful listening, analysis, and genuine community engagement. More than 820 residents participated in workshops, webinars, and online activities, generating nearly 2,900 comments. This isn't top-down planning—it's a reflection of what our community actually values.
A Methodical Approach to Worthington's Future
The committee has taken a thorough approach to understanding how Worthington should evolve. From exploring guiding principles to examining specific opportunity areas like Wilson Bridge, North High, Old Worthington, and South High, every detail has been carefully considered. The draft Land Use and Character concepts demonstrate a strong commitment to balancing growth with the character that makes Worthington special.
What the Community Is Saying
Some clear themes emerged from the engagement process:
- Strong support for quality design and building materials (4.4 average rating)
- High priority for High Street improvements and better connectivity
- Desire for housing diversity while respecting neighborhood character
- Emphasis on environmental stewardship and fiscal responsibility
- Support for walkable, mixed-use development in targeted areas
Three Concepts for the Central Focus Area
One of the most discussed topics has been the future of the Central Focus Area. The committee developed three distinct land-use concepts, each with a different mix of housing, green space, and mixed-use development. While ratings varied, the feedback highlighted key priorities: connected, usable green space matters, design quality is crucial, and development should transition sensitively into existing neighborhoods.
Why This Work Matters
This planning process is about creating a thriving Worthington—one that attracts families, supports local businesses, and maintains the community character we all love. Whether you prioritize walkability, fiscal sustainability, housing options, or the preservation of historic areas, this plan addresses them.
Take a Look and Get Involved
I encourage you to review the Community Choices Results Summary and the Future Land Use and Character draft documents at WorthingtonTogether.org. The committee has done exceptional work translating diverse input into actionable concepts, and your continued engagement helps ensure the final plan reflects our community's vision.
This is thoughtful, inclusive planning at its best—and I'm proud to be part of it.
