"Regional Resilience:" Groundhog Day 2017 Business Forecast/Eggs & Issues Breakfast

The event is part of the Eggs & Issues breakfast series presented collaboratively by the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Worthington.

Keynote Speaker on “Regional Resilience”: Dr. Ned Hill, Professor of Public Affairs, John Glenn College of Public Affairs, The Ohio State University
A “name to know” in economic development and urban public policy and author of an upcoming book on “regional resilience” will be the keynote speaker at the Chamber’s annual Groundhog Day Business Forecast Breakfast.  The event is part of the quarterly Eggs & Issues speaker series presented cooperatively by the Chamber and the City of Worthington.

The breakfast event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 7 to 9:15 a.m. at Crowne Plaza Columbus North, 6500 Doubletree Ave. (43229).
Edward “Ned” Hill is a professor in The Ohio State University’s John Glenn College of Public Affairs and in OSU’s Ohio Manufacturing Institute, where he examines the impact of technological change on innovation, work and leadership in the manufacturing sector.

At the Glenn College, Ned continues his research on factors that affect regional economic resilience — the competitive position of Ohio’s manufacturing sector, workforce policy and business strategy — as well as state and local economic development strategy, public finance, and urban public policy.

His book, Economic Adversity and Regional Economic Resilience , will be published by Cornell University Press later this year.
Ned has launched a research program on product innovation in small- and mid-sized manufacturing enterprises. The Board of Directors of the Ohio Manufacturers Association recognized his work on behalf of Ohio’s manufacturers by presenting him with its Legacy Award in 2005 and again in 2016.
His book, Ohio’s Competitive Advantage, was credited with starting a five-year statewide conversation that resulted in fundamental business tax reform in the state of Ohio. The Cincinnati Enquirer referred to Hill as the “godfather of tax reform” in the summer of 2005.
He holds a doctoral degree in urban and regional planning and economics and a master’s degree in city planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). served as dean of the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University for eight years and was professor and distinguished scholar of economic development. He was also CSU’s first vice president for economic development.
was a nonresident senior fellow of The Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program for more than 20 years.
edited Economic Development Quarterly from 1994 to 2005 and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the American Planning Association .
was listed in Who’s Who 150: Names to Know in Northeast Ohio and C r ain’s 2014 Power 150 by Crain’s Cleveland Business .
was appointed by Governor Bob Taft to Ohio’s Urban Revitalization Task Force.
was named by Governor Ted Strickland to the Automotive Industry Support Council.
was appointed by Governor John Kasich to the state’s manufacturing task force.
was appointed by former Speaker of the Ohio House Bill Batchelder to the Cooperative Education Advisory Board of the Ohio Board of Regents.
served on several national study panels related to city management, economic development, and urban public policy.
authored the chapter on urban economic development for a transition report for Secretary for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Shaun Donovan.
authored the chapter on the growth and decline of U.S. city–based regions for an American Assembly book on legacy cities. He was also a member of American Assemblies on urban economic development and workforce policy.
