Women's Business NetworkThe Women's Business Network of the Chamber provides additional networking, career development, and personal and professional exchange opportunities for women business owners and professionals.
The group was formed in 2008 with the assimilation of the former Worthington Area Business & Professional Women (WAPBW). The group meets up to nine times per year, typically at luncheons with keynote speakers or panels addressing topics of mutual interest. In addition to business-building topics, programs may include women's health topics, issues related to balancing work and family, presentations from top women professionals in the region, and exchange of best practices, ideas or “tips.” Approximately 40 to 50 business women attend each event. The signature event of the Women’s Business Network is the popular annual Progressive Power Luncheon for business women, conducted each fall. The luncheon offers an opportunity to keep your networking skills "on course" while enjoying a delicious lunch at The Worthington Inn. At each luncheon course — salad, entrée and dessert — guests share business cards and short "commercials" with six other business women and enjoy roundtable conversation about their businesses. After each course, guests rotate to another assigned table to make new connections. By the time lunch is over, each participant has made 18 new contacts and has shared business cards, information, and product samples or giveaways. There is no annual participation fee for the Women’s Business Network activity, but lunch attendees pay the varying cost of meals served at each meeting (typically $15-$25). Each year in May, the Women's Business Network provides scholarships to young women at Worthington's two public high schools who aspire to a career in business or a profession. The scholarship application process is competitive, including essay responses from applicants, and is judged by a committee of the Women's Business Network. At each Women’s Business Network luncheon, members and guests can support our scholarship fund by making announcements ($5/member; $10/guest) and participating in door prize drawings ($2/member/guest).
