Resonant: From Shadow to Summit

From shadow to summit, no work embodies that journey like Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor, the triumphant close of a season marking the 200th anniversary of his death. Carlos Simon's Fate Now Conquers opens the evening as his own response to Beethoven, sparked by a fate-haunted line the composer copied from Homer's Iliad into his diary and built on the harmonies of the Seventh Symphony's second movement. Richard Danielpour's From the Mountaintop follows, charting its own ascent from grief toward transcendence with soloist Anthony McGill, Principal Clarinet of the New York Philharmonic. The Fifth then carries the journey to its triumphant end, one of the most iconic works in all of music. Tickets
