Women's Business Network Luncheon at Crowne Plaza Columbus North
Women's Business Network Luncheon
The Women's Business Network of the Chamber invites you to its next luncheon on Tuesday, April 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Crowne Plaza Columbus North, 6500 Doubletree Ave. (off Busch Boulevard).
Our Speaker: Kathryn Nuss, M.D. - Owner, Cousins Maine Lobster Columbus Franchise and Physician, Nationwide Children's Hospital.
One Woman, Two Successful Career Paths
From managing one of the busiest hospital emergency departments in the country to developing a local franchise for one of the nation’s trendiest food truck specialties, Kathryn Nuss, M.D., has an impressive and diverse career journey to share.
This month the Columbus franchise of Cousins Maine Lobster, owned by Dr. Nuss, celebrates its first birthday—several years after she learned about the Portland, Maine-based company on an episode of Shark Tank and was inspired to apply as a franchisee.
The popular food truck has fed crowds at multiple local employers and events, adding Chamber membership and participation in several Worthington-area events this year. Watch for Cousins Maine Lobster at Market Day in September!
While her lobster rolls and clam chowder have been gaining popularity among central Ohio foodies, Dr. Nuss has continued to distinguish herself as a leading practitioner, innovator and educator in the medical community. A graduate of Purdue University and OSU College of Medicine, she began her career as an inpatient pharmacist at Cleveland Clinic before taking on the challenges of pediatric emergency medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Following a residency and fellowship, she became an attending physician there in 1998 and is currently an associate professor in the department of pediatrics.
Her leadership has included service as operations medical director for the emergency department for ten years; associate trauma medical director for 12 years and trauma quality medical director for three years. Since 2007 she has served as an American College of Surgeons emergency medicine site reviewer.
In 2014, she diversified a portion of her clinical time into the emerging field of clinical informatics to enhance and standardize all aspects of clinical care in the health care system. Over the past few years, Dr. Nuss has participated on the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Improving Pediatric Sepsis Outcomes (IPSO) team as a physician informaticist. She serves as an expert on clinical content and workflow. Her team has designed and deployed two automated electronic sepsis screening tools in the emergency department and on inpatient floors, earning recognition through multiple national presentations and published manuscripts.
In addition to her work with clinical informatics, Dr. Nuss has used social media to promote her keen interest in digital health, empowering people to better track, manage and improve their own health. Tweeting as @DocNuss, she has more than 4,100 active Twitter followers and is ranked in the 99th percentile for the number of Twitter followers among active users.
She serves as an instructor for an advanced competency elective for OSU medical students who have an interest in advancing health care through digital communications. She leads social media workshops for health care providers across the country, publishes manuscripts and has just finished editing a book, Social Media for Medical Professionals.
It will be published this summer, as hundreds of central Ohioans are lined up at outdoor events and parking lots to enjoy Cousins Maine Lobster.
