Worthington Alliance for Responsible Development Community Meeting

A recently formed citizen’s group is holding an informational meeting regarding the United Methodist Children’s Home property, on Nov. 13, 6:45 p.m., at the Griswold Center.

Open to the public, the meeting is presented by the Worthington Alliance for Responsible Development (WARD), a citizen’s group founded shortly after the proposed sale of the UMCH land was announced in September.

The meeting’s agenda includes an update on WARD’s activities, an overview of the City of Worthington’s Comprehensive Plan, and information on the City’s zoning process. A question-answer period will follow.

“Everyone in the greater Worthington area seems to recognize that any development of the UMCH property may well alter the atmosphere and functionality of the entire community,” according to Michael Bates, a member of the WARD’s planning group. “We want to contribute to the development process in a constructive, informed manner. As a community, we have only one chance to get this ‘right.’”

In less than a month, WARD has enlisted more than 150 members, with efforts underway to expand its membership. “We’re getting inquiries every day,” Bates said. “We want to make sure that, to the best of our ability, we are representing the views of our entire community.”
