Lunch & Learn - Legislative Update with State Rep. Mike Duffey

Lunch and learn with other Chamber members on April 26 at the Holiday Inn, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Learn how a legislator can help local businesses and residents with individual issues, and participate in an informative discussion about some key issues in state government. Rep. Duffey will center his discussion on:

Municipal and School Funding – a discussion of legislative decisions so far and the outlook; why raising state taxes would have hurt Worthington.
Local Government Reform – efforts to improve efficiency at local level to reduce tax burden and/or mitigate spending reductions. You may also bring questions about other topics of interest, including such issues as: an update of JobsOhio, for which Rep. Duffey was the primary sponsor; next steps for AEP electricity rates and PUCO decisions; information on the InvestOhio process; the governor's focus on workforce training in 2012; Community Entertainment Districs and other issues. State Representative Mike Duffey is currently serving his first term in the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 21st House District, which includes Worthington, Worthington Hills, Northland, Minerva Park and portions of Columbus.
Representative Duffey is a former twice-elected member of Worthington City Council, where he is also a lifelong resident. He graduated with honors from Thomas Worthington High School in 1996. Four years later, he earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan.
From 2003-2010, Duffey was employed with Hinson Ltd Public Relations and in 2008 was promoted to Director of Media Relations. Prior to that, from 2001 to 2003, he worked as a reporter for Hannah News Service, covering the Ohio legislature as a member of the Ohio Legislative Correspondents Association (OLCA). Representative Duffey is active in his community and has served on various nonprofit boards and commissions. The cost of the event, including lunch, is $15 per Chamber member, or $25 per non-member.
