Worthington Historical Society: Passenger Railways in Worthington 1852 - 1933

Ryan Hoover, a Worthington Historical Society trustee, and Alex Campbell, who hosts www.columbusrailroads.com, will use photos, descriptions and story-telling to tell us about the one steam and two electric passenger railways serving Worthington travelers and commuters in those 82 years. In 1851 the first railroad through Worthington was The Cleveland Columbus & Cincinnati Railroad, later Cleveland Columbus Cincinnati & St Louis or "The Big Four Route". The others in turn were The Worthington and Columbus Street Railway Co. in 1891, The Sandusky and Columbus Short Line Railway Co. in 1893, later Pennsylvania RR, and The Columbus Delaware and Marion Electric Co. Railway in 1903. They will also talk about the Ohio Railway Museum, located on the former CD&M line, which preserves at least two electric trolley cars which once served Worthington. Free
