"Would you believe ... ?"

... a chance to “get smart” about current business book topics and get to know other Chamber members at the same time?

On June 17 — as Hollywood rolls out the remake of the spy parody, Get Smart , based on the 1960s TV hit — the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce and Worthington Libraries will unveil a collaborative business book discussion group by the same name.


Planning to attend the Get Smart Business Book Discussion Group? “Good thinking, 99!”


The group offers an opportunity to learn about popular business books, discuss their themes and principles with other business professionals, and build relationships through networking with other participants.


No long-term commitment to the group is necessary (and the discussion may be helpful even to those who have not read or completed the book). Each after-work session will be held in an informal gathering at a Chamber-member restaurant or other business where participants can enjoy purchased or sponsored food and beverages. Pre-registration is encouraged but not mandatory; those who pre-register will be eligible for a door prize and will have a prepared name tag. There is no charge for Chamber members to attend;
purchase of beverages or food is optional.

Preparing for the June 17 book discussion:

Keith Ferrazzi worked his way up from Pennsylvania steel mills, through the Ivy League, and into a number of executive positions, all before he was 40. Along the way, he developed and honed a set of core networking strategies that he shares with readers in Never Eat Alone. Key to his brand of networking is generosity: approaching relationships from the perspective of giving more than you get. Ferrazzi suggests “the currency of real networking is not greed but generosity," a focus on building real and lasting
relationships. To present his interpretation of relationship building, Ferrazzi divides his book into four sections (“The Mind-Set”, “The Skill Set”, “Turning Connections into Compatriots” and “Trading Up and Giving Back”).
