SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn - Are You Ready for EMV?
LOCATION:2280 Hard Road Columbus OH 43235
DESCRIPTION:Credit card technology is changing to combat credit card fraud
and abuse. EMV/NFC\,* technical standards already in place in other countr
ies for smart payment cards and payment terminals which can accept them\,
are being integrated rapidly into U.S. merchant processing. As most retail
ers already know\, they will be required standards for merchants using all
major credit cards by Oct. 15\, 2015. Is your business ready for the chan
ge in technology? Whether you accept credit card payments or use them for
your own purchases\, you'll benefit from a Lunch and Learn workshop on EMV
Readiness conducted by Vantiv and Fifth Third Processing Solutions\, part
ners who offer a chamber-member credit card processing benefit. The Lunch
and Learn will be held on Monday\, Aug. 3\, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. in the co
mmunity room at Northwest Library\, 2280 Hard Road. Lunch and networking w
ill begin at 11:30\, and the program will be presented at noon. A box lunc
h will be offered by Metro Cuisine. (Requests for vegetarian or gluten-fre
e lunches must be received with your registration in the "comment" section
and must be received by noon on Friday\, July 31.) Pre-registration is re
quired. Click on REGISTER NOW on the screen at right and follow the prompt
 s. You will receive a confirming email when successfully registered. You m
ay also register by calling (614) 888-3040. Please register by noon July 3
 1. The workshop fee\, including lunch\, is $5 for Chamber members and $10
for non-members. The workshop will include: EMV What is it and how will it
affect merchants directly? What is the time period to get ready for it (O
ctober deadlines)? What equipment is needed for EMV (chip) cards? Who need
s to be ready for its implementation? NFC (Near Field Communication) What
is it and how will it affect merchants? Who are the "big players" in NFC\,
and what effect will they have? Is your equipment compatible? Why should
you be concerned about it? *EMV stands for Europay\, MasterCard\, and Visa
\, the three companies which originally created the standard. EMV cards ar
e smart cards (also called chip cards or IC cards) which store their data
on integrated circuits rather than magnetic stripes\, although many EMV ca
rds also have stripes for backward compatibility. They can be contact card
s which must be physically inserted (or "dipped") into a reader\, or conta
ctless cards which can be read over a short distance using radio-frequency
identification technology. Payment cards which comply with the EMV standa
rd are often called chip-and-PIN or chip-and-signature cards\, depending o
n the exact authentication methods required to use them. Near field commun
ication (NFC) is the set of protocols that enables smartphones and other d
evices to establish radio communication with each other by touching the de
vices together or bringing them into proximity to a distance of typically
10 cm (3.9 in) or less. We hope you'll join other Chamber members for this
  informative session on EMV readiness.\n\nhttps://www.worthingtonchamber.o
