WORTHINGTON LIBRARIES

In 2007, Worthington Libraries received the prestigious national Library of the Year award presented by Library Journal and Thomson Gale Publishing. This award annually recognizes the library that most profoundly demonstrates outstanding community service. Worthington Libraries was previously a finalist for this award in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2006.

Since its inception in 1803, Worthington has valued the vital role a public library plays in the education and enlightenment of its residents. In fact, our founder, James Kilbourne, asked the original settlers to contribute $2 toward the establishment of a library before they left New England.

Today, Worthington Libraries is the ninth highest circulating library in Ohio (behind only the eight metropolitan library systems) and provides residents with access to over 3 million items in two modern facilities: Old Worthington Library at 820 High Street and Northwest Library at 2280 Hard Road. Managed by Worthington Libraries, the Northwest Library is a cooperative project with the Columbus Metropolitan Library. It is one of only two jointly operated libraries in the United States.

Both libraries provide quality, up-to-date materials and resources. The Library also maintains an award-winning digital library, Worthington Libraries Online, which includes access to KnowItNow24x7, a live online reference service available 24 hours a day, and free online tutoring for students. You can also download books and movies directly from the library’s website.

To further meet the education, information and entertainment needs of the community, the Library presents more than 1,000 programs annually, many of which represent partnerships with other community organizations. Worthington Libraries collaborates with the Worthington Historical Society on Worthington Memory, an online scrapbook of Worthington history. The library maintains an extensive collection of business resources.

Hours of operation for both libraries are: Monday-Thursday, 9 am-9 pm, Friday and Saturday, 9 am-6 pm; and Sunday (September-May), 1 pm-5 pm. Staff at Old Worthington Library can be reached at 807-2626. Northwest Library can be reached at 807-2656.
